JD Edwards Hidden Gems - Fixed Asset Balances Mass Update Screen

This week, we are posting our first "JD Edwards Hidden Gems" post. These are bits of JD Edwards information that you may not find any documentation for anywhere, not even Oracle, thus the adjective "hidden". They are gems because they reveal system functionality which may cut down on typing or help your troubleshooting endeavors. Let's get into our first one - P1202QAD.

If you try searching for P1202QAD in My Oracle Support, you won't find anything except some content in the MOS Community. This is a headerless application over the F1202, making this application VERY dangerous if updated incorrectly. This does not touch the GL, and it has zero audit features. (It may be a myth, but I had heard from an old colleague that "QAD" was short for "quick and dirty".) This is what the screen looks like:

The biggest benefit to this application is being able to mass-update Life Months. When using the Z processing application and UBE for Fixed Assets, the Life Months default is based on Default Depreciation Coding. It is not uncommon to have different Life Months inside a single asset class, making P1202QAD a huge time-saver over manual updates of each different Life.
