Ask Denovo - JDE Tips and Tricks: The Enter Key

If you're like me, as you continue to use your JD Edwards instance, you tend to develop your own particular habits when it comes to navigating through certain applications. But are those habits the most efficient? How much extra time are you spending on unnecessary clicks? Let me introduce you to the power of the Enter key.

Did you know that the Enter key is the only key on your keyboard that will perform different actions based on where the cursor is on the screen.

Here are the three main shortcuts I use daily:

1. During Grid Entry: In the grid, the Enter key is just like it is in a Word document or email - it's a "return" to the next line's first field. I've seen many users scroll back to the left or arrow down and left, then click into the next line.
   
   
2. An Additional Method to Find: If you are doing a search with something in a QBE field, with your cursor still in any QBE field, Enter is the same as clicking Find.
   
   
3. During Data Selection: When you take the "Literal" option in Data Selection and type in your criteria, Enter is the same as clicking OK

There are many others (including within a drop-down menu, where hovering your mouse over a value and hitting Enter will select that value) but I haven't found them to be as useful as the three listed above.
